The Leadership Consultation
S2E05: “Creating Intersections to Accelerate Transformative Innovation”, with Michael Hill, Global Head, Science & Technology and Innovation at Science Innovations L.L.C.
In this episode of The Marketing Consultation, we had the pleasure of hosting Michael Hill, a seasoned innovator and leader in the healthcare industry. Michael shared his insights on innovation, leadership, and the importance of critical thinking in driving transformative changes in healthcare.
Michael's passion for making impactful changes in healthcare is evident. He believes in the power of diverse intersections, as the fuel for creating transformative innovations. As Michael recounts the fascinating story about the serendipitous invention of the Post-it note at 3M, he draws parallels to his own experience with the development of cardiac resynchronization therapy for heart failure patients, which was born out of a need for a single patient and has since become the fastest adopted medical device technology in history.
Michael also shares his thoughts on critical thinking, stating that it significantly increases the probability of good results. He believes that critical thinking skills can be honed and that awareness of one's biases and knowledge base is crucial.
When asked about how he balances his personal and professional lives, Michael highlights the importance of time management and self-care. He stresses that leaders should be mindful of the habits they model for their employees, as these habits can influence the work culture. He also shared his three defining traits: curiosity, passion, and perseverance.
Michael's insights are not only applicable to scientists and innovators but also to marketers and leaders in various fields. His endless curiosity and dedication to improving healthcare make him a truly inspiring figure in the industry.
